About

Athena International Publishing is an open access publisher of scientific, technical and medical (STM) information. The company was founded at the end of 2021 to further support the efficient dissemination of “sound science” and the advancement and exchange of scientific knowledge at a time when general trust in science is globally under pressure. Our team consists of a group of publishing professionals with more than 150 years of combined experience across all major STM publishers and service providers in the industry. The company headquarters is based in Amsterdam in The Netherlands, but our team operates globally and to a large extent virtually.

The Athena publishing portfolio consists of journals, book series, conference proceedings and books covering all STM disciplines including Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Biology and Life Sciences, Health and Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences and Humanities. All our publications are Open Access and hence free to read, download, copy and distribute under the terms of the applicable Creative Commons end-user license. Except for publications which are owned or sponsored by third parties, authors are requested to pay Article Publication Charges (APCs) or Book Publication Charges (BPCs) for making their content available on an Open Access basis. Submission of articles is free of charge.

Athena aims to be a fair and affordable Open Access alternative to the major STM publishing houses in the industry and supports the publication of sound science globally with an extended focus on providing outlets for emerging market research which often still struggles to find its rightful place in reputable scientific publications. We strictly adhere to the ethical standards as outlined in the policies of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). As such all our publications follow the COPE Core Practices and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing. Finally, in support of the mitigation of global climate change, Athena International Publishing is committed to being a CO2-neutral company which aims to donate a percentage of Journal APC revenues to CO2-compensation initiatives.
